2023 Kentucky Derby Field Reduced By Five

Forte, Epicenter No Longer in Contention

Three New Horses Draw In

With just days to go until the 2023 Kentucky Derby, the field has been significantly reduced. Forte, the early race favorite, has been scratched due to a foot injury. Epicenter, another top contender, has also been withdrawn from the race after developing a cough.

The scratches have opened the door for three new horses to draw into the race: Tiz the Bomb, Pappacap, and Giant Mischief. Tiz the Bomb is a Grade 1 winner who finished second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile last year. Pappacap is a multiple stakes winner who was third in the Florida Derby. Giant Mischief is a Grade 3 winner who has shown steady improvement throughout his career.

The defections of Forte and Epicenter have shaken up the betting market. Tiz the Bomb is now the new favorite at 5-1, followed by Pappacap at 6-1 and Giant Mischief at 8-1. However, with so many talented horses still in the field, the race is still wide open.

The 2023 Kentucky Derby will be held on Saturday, May 6th at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. The race will be broadcast live on NBC.
