Belgium beats Romania in dramatic fashion
Lukaku brace leads the way
Romelu Lukaku scored twice as Belgium came from behind to beat Romania 3-2 in a thrilling encounter on Friday. The match was a tale of two halves, with Romania taking the lead twice before Belgium eventually emerged victorious. Christian Benteke also scored for Belgium, while Nicolae Stanciu and Alexandru Mitrita netted for Romania.
A slow start for Belgium
Belgium started the match slowly and found themselves behind in the 17th minute after Stanciu put Romania ahead with a stunning free-kick. Belgium responded well, however, and Lukaku equalized just six minutes later with a header from a Kevin De Bruyne cross. Romania regained the lead just before half-time when Mitrita headed home a corner.
Belgium's second-half resurgence
Belgium came out with renewed vigor in the second half and were rewarded when Lukaku scored his second goal of the game in the 51st minute. The Manchester United striker latched onto a pass from De Bruyne and slotted home to make it 2-2. Benteke then put Belgium ahead for the first time in the match in the 70th minute, heading home Dries Mertens' cross.
Romania unable to find an equalizer
Romania pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but Belgium held on to secure the victory. The win moves Belgium to the top of Group E, while Romania remains in third place.
